Privacy Policy

Last updated 9 August 2026. This policy describes the version of Folio currently on the App Store.

Folio does not send your communication content anywhere. It has no Folio account, no advertising, no analytics SDK and no cross-app tracking, and it contains no code that uploads your words to KeenShift or to a prediction provider. Drafts, phrases, spoken history, learned words, Conversation Mode transcripts, suggestions and your optional medical information all stay on the device. Apart from Apple's own App Store purchase check, Folio makes no network requests at all.

Data Folio keeps locally

• Drafts. A draft is held in memory while you compose it. Folio does not add unfinished drafts to its saved phrase or history database.
• Phrases, boards, shortcuts and spoken history. These live in Folio's app container on your device.
• Medical information (optional, and empty until you fill it in). Settings › Emergency › Medical information lets you or a carer type a name, a blood type, allergies, conditions and medication, and an emergency contact. Every field is optional. Folio stores exactly the text you typed, in its own storage on this device — it does not interpret, validate or derive anything medical. The card is shown underneath the emergency phrases so that somebody helping you can read it, and can be enlarged with Show large. It is never spoken aloud, it is never used for suggestions or learning, and Folio never contacts anybody for you. None of it is sent to KeenShift or to anyone else. Emptying a field deletes it from the device.
• Conversation Mode. When you tap Listen, Apple on-device speech recognition transcribes the person speaking with you. Folio does not upload audio or transcripts. The rolling transcript is held in memory and cleared when listening stops. If on-device recognition is unavailable, Folio leaves Listen off instead of using server transcription.
• Suggestions and learning. Phrase-library ranking, learned word patterns and supported Apple on-device model suggestions run locally. Incognito pauses learning and history; Erase learned words deletes local learning.
• Voices. Folio uses installed Apple speech voices and Personal Voice through iOS. Folio does not ship or stream voices of its own.
• Backups. Exported backups are files you create and control. Folio also keeps one automatic snapshot inside its own app storage so that a database fault cannot lose your phrases. Both files include your saved phrases, boards, shortcuts and — if you filled it in — your medical information, as ordinary readable JSON. KeenShift does not receive either file.
• Preferences. Voice, appearance, access and privacy preferences are stored locally so the app works the way you set it up.

Data KeenShift collects through Folio

None. Folio does not include developer analytics, advertising, account sign-in, remote conversation prediction or a developer-operated content upload service. Its App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected, and that is exactly what the app does.

Apple services and links you choose

• App Store purchases. Apple processes Folio Pro purchases and returns entitlement status through StoreKit. KeenShift does not receive your payment-card details.
• Apple voices and speech recognition. These are operating-system features governed by your device settings and Apple's terms.
• Device and iCloud backups. Because Folio's content lives in its own app container, it is included in any iPhone or iPad backup you make, in the same way as your other apps. That copy is between you and Apple; KeenShift never receives it. If you would rather your medical information were not in a device backup, leave those fields empty.
• External links. If you choose a website, App Store, email or support link, the destination app or service may process data under its own policy.
• Support email. KeenShift receives only the information you decide to send. Please avoid private conversation text unless it is necessary to explain a problem.

Your controls

• Incognito: pauses local learning and local history.
• Erase learned words: removes Folio's local learning data.
• Clear medical information: empty any field in Settings › Emergency › Medical information and Folio removes it from the device. Leave every field empty and no card is stored or shown.
• Delete individual content: phrases, boards, shortcuts and history can be removed in the app.
• Export a backup: creates a local file you control.
• Delete app data: deleting Folio deletes its local app container. Export a backup first if you may want the content later.
• Permissions: Microphone, Speech Recognition and Personal Voice access can be changed in iOS Settings.

Children and schools

Folio does not require an account or collect a child's identity through the app. Communication content, medical information and suggestions stay on the device. A parent, guardian, school or user controls device permissions, local content and any backup files they export.

Security and changes

Folio relies on iOS app-container protections for local data. Your medical information is stored there in ordinary app storage rather than in a separately encrypted vault, and it appears in the backup files described above, so please keep a passcode on the device and treat any exported backup as confidential. Folio's Settings PIN protects editing the medical card, not reading it — a paramedic has to be able to read it without a code, and that is deliberate. No system can be promised perfectly secure. If Folio later proposes materially different data collection or off-device processing, this policy and the App Store privacy disclosure will be updated before that behavior ships.
